Privacy Policy — Vent: Rap it out

Vent ("Vent: Rap it out," "we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, where it is stored, and your choices. It is designed to meet the requirements of the Apple App Store and applicable data protection laws.
1. Summary: Your Data Stays on Your Device
Except for the data described in Section 2 below, we do not store your personal content on our servers.
Your journal entries, AI-generated content (rewrites, mood tips, rap lyrics, rap audio), and related app data are stored only on your device. We do not have access to this content.
2. Information We Collect and Store on Our Servers
We use secure, industry-standard services (see Section 4) to provide account and subscription features. Only the following data is stored on our servers:
2.1 Account information (required to use the app)
- Email address — used to create and manage your account and, if you choose, for password reset.
- Display name / username — the name you choose to show in the app.
- Authentication provider — whether you signed in with Email, Apple, or Google (we do not receive or store your Apple or Google password).
2.2 Subscription information
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription, and related dates (e.g. expiry, renewal), so we can correctly unlock premium features and handle renewals/cancellations via the App Store.
We do not sell your account or subscription data to third parties for advertising or marketing.
3. Information Stored Only on Your Device (Not on Our Servers)
The following data is stored only on your phone or device using local storage. We do not upload it to our servers.
- Journal entries — your written content, titles, and tags.
- AI-generated content — including but not limited to: social post rewrites, kind words rewrites, dark humor rewrites, rap lyrics, rap audio, mood tips, and other AI outputs generated from your journals.
- Local preferences — in-app settings that are stored only on the device (where applicable).
- Drafts and edits — any unsynced drafts or edits to your journals and AI content.
Important: If you delete the app or clear app data, this local data may be lost. We do not have a copy of it on our servers.
4. Third-Party Services and SDKs We Use
We use the following third-party services and SDKs to run the app. Each has its own privacy practices; we only use them to provide the features described.
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, cloud database (Firestore), cloud storage, and cloud functions (e.g. for subscription and app backend). Used for account data and subscription status only.
- Apple Sign-In — sign in with your Apple ID.
- Google Sign-In — sign in with your Google account.
- Apple App Store — in-app purchases and subscriptions. Payment and subscription data are processed by Apple.
- Speech recognition (voice input) — when you use voice input in the app, speech-to-text is provided by your device's operating system: on iOS by Apple, and on Android by Google. How your voice is processed (e.g. on-device or sent to the provider) is governed by your device and the provider's privacy policy.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for third-party advertising based on your journal or AI content.
5. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Provide and maintain subscription and premium features.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
- Improve the app (e.g. stability and performance; we do not use your journal or AI content for marketing or selling).
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Account and subscription data: Retained as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and subscription-related records from our systems in accordance with our data retention practices. Note: Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription; you must cancel the subscription in the App Store subscription settings.
- Local data: Stored only on your device; we do not retain it after you delete the app or clear app data.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures (including secure connections and access controls) to protect the data we store on our servers. You are responsible for keeping your device and account credentials secure.
8. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
9. International Users
Your data may be processed in the country where our service providers operate (including the United States and other countries). By using the app, you consent to such transfer and processing in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app and/or on our website and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the app after the effective date of the updated policy constitutes acceptance of the changes.
